Jom EAT! // Aik Prawn Mee & Asam Laksa @ SEA Park

Penang is my favourite food paradise in Malaysia. Finding a stall selling authentic Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee & Asam Laksa is a boon to us.

Although dining here can be a little uncomfortable due to hot and humid condition, eager foodies won’t let this deter them from a bowl of deliciousness. Takeaway is an option if this matters you. Service was friendly and efficient.

We also like Claypot Fish Head Noodles @ Jalan Ipoh Kuan Tee Temple.

Hokkien Prawn Noodles

The bowl of noodles was served with pork slices, blanched prawns, kangkung, and some friend shallots. A normal bowl would also have bean sprouts as topping but we opted out. There wasn’t too generous amount of condiments in the bowl but we liked the fact there was a spoonful of chilli paste served together with the noodles.

The essentials of a good bowl of noodles is the broth. The broth here was packed with strong prawn flavours and totally addictive. It was sweet, and savoury well-balanced with a hint of spiciness. Speaking of authenticity, we can easily vote for this.

Asam Laksa

Another highlight of the truck was Asam Laksa, highly raved by among customers here. The thick broth with mackerel fish shreds was flavourful, spicy and tangy. We had to admit that the topping wasn’t impressive enough because we preferred more “vibrant” topping combination with shredded ginger torch, onion and etc, but the Asam Laksa here was quite unimpressive. Overall, it was still a good bowl which hit the right notes of flavours but we couldn’t compare it to the ones in Penang, especially our newfound favourite, Laksa Bisu @ Air Itam.

You can order Ais Kacang from neighbouring stall too. Not bad beating the afternoon heat.

What do we think about Aik Prawn Mee & Asam Laksa?

We won’t hesitate returning for more. Despite the slightly uncomfortable ambiance, we still found this a valuable find. It’s one of our favourite spots to be at, for authentic Penang style prawn mee. Woohoo!

Speaking about Asam Laksa, have you tried Laksa Bisu @ Air Itam, Penang?
