Jom DRINK! // Cafe Du Jour @ The Hub SS2

After moving into where we live now for 3 years, we are finally expecting a new neighbour to move in soon. Yes, the adjoining unit is finally welcoming its occupant soon. It’s thrilling but the drilling from all the renovation works is rather disturbing at times. It makes a good reason to pack my laptop and find a quieter place to focus on my work. One of our new favourites is Cafe Du Jour at The Hub SS2. The exterior of the café may look humble but the interior deco surely makes it Instagram-worthy. I especially like the plants in the café, it creates a refreshing atmosphere for those who patronise…

Jom EAT! | Kari Kepala Ikan D’Tugu View

As much as we view Tugu Negara as our utmost patriotic National Monument, there’s little we knew about the vicinity of the area. At least to us, we didn’t know there’s a little hidden gem tucked away in the lush greenery surrounding the area. So one day, I was really in the mood for rich, scrumptious fish head curry. We browsed through our options and shortlisted a few which carry good reviews. When we stumbled upon Mark Wiens’ vlog about D’Tugu View Cafe, we were salivating and our mind yelled, “This is it!” We parked our car at a spot just right outside the National Monument. However, we then found…

Jom EAT! // Kanbe @ 163 Retail Park

It brings back the delightful ramen breeze to soothe our desire for a bowl of authentic Japanese ramen. If you’re following our foodie trail fond enough, you might have noticed our adoration for Japanese ramen. It is an unexplainable fondness. Last week as we were loitering in Mont Kiara’s 163 Retail Park, we passed by KANBE. We’d love to try it then but it seemed unavailable (arh, such a great loss). Soon enough, we find ourselves in 163 Retail Park again. As we approached KANBE, the entrance was congested with queueing customers. At a glance, there were probably more than 10 groups of patrons ahead of us. Deep breath and…

Jom EAT! // The Lankan Crabs @ Bangsar

Being the wife of a premium seafood trader, I always thought I have had enough of seafood – but I was wrong. I could always have a little bit more. Didn’t know there was a hidden gem in Bangsar serving authentic Sri Lankan crab recipes and other dishes until one day Billy came home from work and insisted we should schedule a dinner there. “I salivated at their menu” That was how he described, so when the day finally came, I was thrilled. Established in March 2020, the restaurant may seem new to many, but enthusiastic food lovers have highly regarded The Lankan Crabs. If you’re unfamiliar with Bangsar district,…

Jom EAT! // Warung BOB & Family @ Kota Damansara

I’m so thankful to have watched The Food Ranger the night before. WAIT! But this is too sinfully good. Watching food channels has been Billy’s and my favourite evening pastime lately. Somehow we find it very comforting and fun as we both truly enjoy good food and the process of scouting around for outstanding eateries. It was a shame to admit that we did not encounter this warung (a type of small, family-owned business) until we watched a video released by food vlogger, Trevor James via his YouTube channel, The Food Ranger. Yes, imagine the kind of meh that you actually discover somewhere awesome in your own backyard from an…

Jom EAT! // Signature Kaw Kaw x Stiq. @ Bandar Utama

It’s been a long while since burger tasted this good. We love burgers. It may seem awkward but we love sloppy burgers drowned in sauces and melted cheese. Sinful delight? Yes, indeed. We were in Bandar Utama the other day and needed a space to sit down and complete some jobs in hand. On weekday afternoon, Bandar Utama can be quite a teeming place with schools and commercial areas all around, throngs of students and parents as well as white-collars looking for a lunch spot make this place extra busy. It was difficult to find a parking in many commercial squares. After several attempts, we finally decided to just park…

Jom EAT! // Kampung Contemporary Dining @ Seksyen 17 PJ

Malaysians generally have a soft spot for “kampung”, which translates ‘village’. This is where people return for basic yet comforting food, because that’s how home-cooked food should be like. One day as we were wandering around Seksyen 17 area, we came across a relatively quiet street where a few eateries and independent cafés instantly caught our attention. There was a banana leaf rice restaurant, some dessert shops and right at the corner, there was also a Thai restaurant. Our bad, we didn’t notice this area sooner. As we drove past the street, I was attracted to a minimalist façade, and that’s where Kampung Contemporary Dining is. The exterior is entirely…

Jom EAT! // Daruma Syokudo @ 1 Mont Kiara

It all ended on a high note. It’s true! Surprises hide unexpectedly. 1 Mont Kiara is one of our favourite dinner spots, especially when we are looking for a quiet and relaxing place to unwind a day’s work-related stress. There are several eateries here – some are outlets of gigantic F&B chains, while some are independently-owned restaurants. Now when we think about it, we notice we’re always here for Japanese food – be it ramen or sushi, it’s a great place to get a quick Jap food fix. That being said, we’ve passed by Daruma Syokudo numerous times, but hadn’t really a chance to patronise it. We don’t know why…

Jom EAT! // MAMALEE Nasi Lemak @ Damansara Uptown PJ

When the national dish is infused with some creativity, it becomes a creation we couldn’t say no to. To be frank, whenever I thought about nasi lemak in Damansara Uptown, the famous stall will always come in mind. Little did I know, there’s a restaurant tucked away on the first floor of the busy Damansara Uptown shophouses serving nasi lemak. You might have passed by Mamalee countless times but did not notice such a hidden gem or perhaps you just did not want to climb the stairs (like us). We should have totally be a little bit more diligent. The set up of the restaurant was simple and fuss-free, but…

Jom EAT! // Restoran Sambal Hijau @ Kampung Sungai Penchala

I hope I wasn’t too greedy, but the selection of dishes here has just blown me away! Kampung Sungai Penchala is one of our often-overlooked areas in the relatively busy quarter of Kuala Lumpur. If it wasn’t for the sake of Restoran Sambal Hijau, we might keep on being clueless. Thanks to our food hunt endeavour these days, it did help us to discover all these lesser-known places. Anyway, it’s a fine day. We decided it’s a day for mind-blowing Malay cuisine. After an intensive search on Google, Restoran Sambal Hijau somehow caught our attention with the wide array of lauk-pauk (dishes) available. RELATED: We’re sure you will like Aunty…
