Thai cuisine has always occupied a spot in our favourite food list. As our expectation for authentic Thai food hikes, it becomes increasingly challenging to look for a good restaurant to fulfil our desires. When Mr B came home from his new office someday last month and told me about this Thai food joint nearby his new place, we were eager to try it out. The actual visit didn’t take place until weeks ago, when we finally caught a chance to patronise Jatujak Bangkok Street Food.

How to Get to Jatujak Bangkok Street Food?

Jatujak Bangkok Street Food is located in a lesser-known area in Ara Damansara. According to Mr B, this area is called Taipan Damansara. There are not many people in this commercial area on weekdays, but will be much more bustling during dinner hours or on weekends, with people coming along patronising several restaurants here. Parking is rather effortless, since there are sufficient parking spaces in this area.

Jatujak: The Food

On our first visit to Jatujak, everything was seamlessly smooth. There were not many customers at that hour since it was an early dinner for us. We were seated at the al fresco dining area, so we did not walk into the premise to check on the indoor ambiance.

The menu was an interesting mix: we were so tempted to try everything, but knowing our size of appetite, we had to forcefully control our desire. As such, we spent some time browsing through the menu and contemplating what to order.

Stewed Pork Leg – The new dimension of pork leg.

As soon as this dish hit the table, we were literally surprised by its portion. No way we could have devour this pork leg entirely, no way. But we proved ourselves wrong. The pork leg was braised in thick aromatic sauce, so delicious and flavourful. We do not want to boast of how long they had been braising the pork leg (because we have no idea XD), but it was absolutely succulent and literally fall-off-the-bone. The most addictive part was definitely the skin, we liked the stickiness on our lips because it showed that the pork leg was properly done. One thing to note, the gravy or braising sauce was rather on the sweet side, but in a good way. Oh yeah, by the way, the plate ended up empty. Nothing was wasted.

Hatyai Chicken – Crunchy and addictive.

Once again, the portion did put us in awe. Two whole chicken legs buried under a generous blanket of fried shallots, this was heaven redefined. The fried chicken was coated and deep-fried to perfect crunchiness, while the flesh remain juicy and tender. To add another dimension of texture, the fried shallot was a brilliant idea. Yes, more crunchiness! Our only complaint was the lack of flavour in the flesh. Perhaps more time added to the marinating process will be ideal. Nevertheless, we enjoyed this dish.

We did order vege dish – HK Kailan Salted Fish. Just because amidst other guilt-building dishes, we need a balance.
