Jom EAT! // Ombak Kitchen @ Bukit Jelutong

How do you savour your dinner today? Malaysians, pakai tangan jer…

Seafood is our happy potion – more if we knew it’s a place where we can enjoy seafood without caring too much about forcing tines into the delicate flesh. It’s like a paradise redefined.

With its tagline “Pakai tangan jer…” (Just use your hands), Ombak Kitchen has a clear vision of positioning the restaurant as a fun-filled, casual and vibrant place to hang-out. Ombak Kitchen in Bukit Jelutong is located at D’Vida Business Centre. The interior is fuss-free and functional – there is a section specifically allocated for birthday celebrations and the dining area is comfortably air-conditioned.

Ombak Kitchen isn’t just another newbie in the business. In fact, they have made several public appearances in renowned TV and radio stations as well as printed media. Our excitement hikes!

To keep our excitement rolling, Ombak Kitchen offers an extensive menu with good selections of appetisers, mains, impressive desserts and beverages – we’re spoilt.

We were served a few appetisers – all appeared freshly prepared and absolutely tempting.

3 Cheese Fresh Baked Oyster (3 pcs – RM49.90) – Fresh baked oysters, topped with 3 types of melted cheese – cheddar, parmesan and cream cheese. Nothing can go wrong with melted cheese! We enjoyed the complexity of the mouthfeel this dish gave. From the richness of cheeses, cut through by the use of pickled purple cabbage to the oyster-freshness burst in mouth, everything just blended so well together.

Fried Calamari Squid With Salted Egg (RM14.90) – Calamari squid fried in salted egg batter, dressed with cilantro sprinkles and fresh baby basil leaves. Fried food is my guilty pleasure (I just have to keep on reminding myself). To be frank, the salted egg flavour did not surprise us but we were delighted by the fragrance of curry leaves!

Taco Fish Crispy Tortilla with Cheese (RM19.90) – Crispy taco shell with fish fillet fried in tempura batter, fresh purple cabbage, diced tomatoes. Sprinkled with cilantro, fresh thymes and parmesan cheese, and glazed with cream cheese dressing. The moment this taco dish was served, we were impressed by how great it smelt. This can be crazily addictive but portion was rather huge, so order sensibly.

Fried Sweet Potato – It’s French Fries of the fancier version and completely understandable – it’s sweet potato! While I think no one could say no to sweet potato, I can’t help but to continue falling in love with it.

Seafood Combos

Ombak’s seafood dishes can be the winning combo – with assorted fresh seafood paired with their best selling sauces, all spread generously over a sheet of paper on dining table, you just have to dig in with your hands (because there is no better way to make the meal more awesome).

Seafood with Ombak Crazy Cajun SauceThe sauce is the perfect blend of imported Louisianan ingredients with Malaysian mix of in-house secret spices. The variety of seafood options here would blow us away. Fresh crustaceans like huge tiger prawns, clams, mussels, squids, crawfish, scallops and mud crabs are generously coated in the sauce with other matching accompaniments, such as potato cubes and corn on the cob. It was mildly spicy but completely addictive – we did not want to waste our stomach space but imagined the sauce could be perfect on rice. And we might sell our soul for it.

Seafood with Buttermilk Indulgence Sauce – If you’re a true Malaysian, you should find this sauce familiar. It’s a classic and an absolute Malaysians’ all time favourite. As of other Malaysian favourite sauces, Butter Indulgence Sauce is mildly spiced, buttery rich, and has a balance touch of herbs and spices like lemongrass, curry leaves and garlic. Yes, you guess it right, we again imagined how great it would be if we could have just another tiny spot in our stomach for a scoop of rice mixed with this sauce. Heavenly yums.

DessertsIt’s a pretty creative dessert, isn’t it? 🙂 We really did enjoy the mini Nutella doughnuts!

Perfect ending to a satisfying meal.
If seafood is our happy potion, then Ombak Kitchen has the perfected formula of the potion.
